Raceway Park Memorial Day Miller
Lite Enduro Series
By Kevin Busse
The action was hot both on and off the track at Raceway Park in Shakopee for the Miller Lite Enduro Series. With temperatures in the mid-90’s, the sticky conditions made difficult running for several drivers throughout the afternoon.
In 4-cylinder Enduro action, after 100 nonstop laps of full-on racing, Chris Morek of Lakeville topped the other drivers to the checkered flag.
In 8-cylinder Enduro action, 200 laps of door banging with over 65 cars on the quarter mile, couldn’t stop Rockford’s Mark Bronstad from building up over a two lap lead at the checkers to take the Precision Pours Enduro car to victory lane.
In other action, a hard-hitting 4-cylinder demo derby had carnage early, with multiple fires and rollovers bringing the huge crowd to it’s feet. At the end, with 3 cars remaining, the fans decided the top drivers. 3’rd place went to Joel Johnston out of Minneapolis, Andover’s Ryan Barta took 2’nd, with Richfield’s Dennis “The Manace” Barta getting the biggest response from the excited crowd to take the top spot.
Spectator drags brought 16 “daily drivers” to the quarter-mile oval for a one lap one-on-one drag race. Farmington’s Mike Sellner made his return to Raceway Park with his highpower 1979 Camero, beating all comers including second place finisher Justin Otterholt of Shakopee, who drove a 1994 STS to the track. All spectator draggers were able to drive home, as everyone kept their cars off the wall and away from each other for clean racing.
Next up at Raceway Park is NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series action, Sunday, June 4’th, with Mobil One/Power 110 night, presented by Mail Handling Services. Short Trackers, Hobby Stocks, NASCAR Late-Models, Bombers, and the Wild’N’Crazy Figure-8’s are on tap, with a special appearance by the Great North Legends.
