Reuvers holds off Schneider at Raceway Park

By Corey Butler Jr.

SHAKOPEE, Minn.  –  Donny Reuvers returned to victory lane for the fifth time this season and for the third consecutive week in the Country Joe Homes Late Models. Following a caution, Reuvers held off Jason Schneider for the final 13 laps of green.  James Leffler, who led up until that point and would have restarted the race as the leader, suffered mechanical problems while pacing under the yellow and needed assistance to get off the track.  He returned later in the race, 10 laps down. When racing resumed, Schneider tried to get on the outside of Reuvers, but could never seriously challenge him.  Schneider shadowed Reuvers’ bumper until the drop of the checkered flag.  Matt Goede was able to use the restart on the outside line to get by Tony Brewer for third.

Steve Marschall visited victory lane for the third time this season in the Turtle’s Bar & Grill Hobby Stocks.  Marschall took the lead on the first circuit, using his outside front row starting spot to catapult ahead of pole sitter Lucas Grosinger.  Marschall extended his lead until a caution with five laps to go brought out the races only yellow.  The delay didn’t deter Marschall, as he once again pulled away in the waning laps.  Grosinger settled for second, while Bryan Turtle got by Mark Hawes in the last few laps for third.

The defending Coca-Cola Short Tracker champion, Mike Dimmick, visited victory lane for the first time in the 2006 season.  Dimmick took advantage of  leader Dave Jones when Jones got sideways in turn four, slowing the field, allowing Dimmick and Eric Larson able to squeeze by.  A caution came out a lap later, regulating Larson and Dimmick to the front row.  Dimmick was able to capitalize on his position and worked around Larson a lap after the restart, easily winning the 20-lap event.  Larson settled for second, with Marr Schaar finishing third.

Donny Little went untested in the Lupient Chevrolet of Belle Plaine Bomber feature, winning his second feature of the year.  Starting in the front row, Little pulled away from his dancing partner on the outside, John Zumberge.  As Little pulled away, Eric Montour and Jamie Schoaf were also able to advance into second and third, respectively.  That’s how the top three cars remained for the final 18 laps of the race.

In the first of two Miller Lite Figure 8 features, Jay Barta was able to use a lap four misfortune for John Lebens, resulting in a caution, to get by Kari Miller for the lead when racing resumed.  Barta went unscathed through the “X” and elsewhere on the track, as he led the final 11 laps.  J.R. Gesswein was able to move into second a few laps after the caution, but was never able to seriously challenge Barta.  Adam Radiske made a last lap pass on Miller for third.

In the second Miller Lite Figure 8 feature, a first lap tangle with leaders Troy Tuma and Mark Bronstad allowed Matt Dickey to squeeze by and take the lead.  Tuma was able to recuperate and eventually catch Dickey in the waning laps.  As the leaders took the white flag, Dickey had to slow in the “X” and Tuma tried go to the left of Dickey, making contact.  The contact resulted in a cut tire for Dickey.  Elsewhere on the track, melee broke out and a caution halted the racing setting up a green-white-checkered.  When racing resumed, Tuma led Dave Nogle and Todd Wilson for the final two laps, finishing in that order.
