Goede holds off Reuvers for ASA Minnesota Late Model Challenge Series win at Raceway Park
By Corey Butler Jr.

SHAKOPEE, Minn. – Jacob Goede held off a hard-charging Donny Reuvers to win the 75-lap ASA Minnesota Late Model Challenge Series race Sunday at Raceway Park. One night removed from winning the ASA Minnesota Late Model Challenge Series race at I-94 Raceway in Sauk Centre, Reuvers offered the strongest challenge to Goede in the Country Joe Homes Late Models.  Goede, who started outside the second row, quickly moved to second and took the lead on lap four.  Reuvers started deep in the field and moved to third by lap 29, where the first caution fell for debris.  That tightened the field up and negated the lead that Goede and Jason Schneider had built.  Six laps following the caution, Reuvers moved by Schneider and reeled in Goede.  However, Goede held off Reuvers for three more cautions and the remaining 41 laps.  Schneider rounded out the top three.

Bill Woodworth was the man on the move in the Turtle’s Bar & Grill Hobby Stock division.  Starting fifth, Woodworth quickly moved forward and used the outside line to get by Louis Ansolabehere for the lead on lap seven.  The biggest challenge for Woodworth came from five-time feature winner Steve Marschall, who started seventh, and moved behind Woodworth on lap nine, following a caution.  Pressuring Woodworth was all Marschall could do as he settled for second.  Mark Hawes finished third.

Paul Haeg showed his dominance again in the Coca-Cola Short Trackers by coming from the fourth row and making a late race pass on Nate Nordrum for the win.  Haeg used the outside line to his advantage, just as he did one week earlier, to pass car after car.  Once Haeg moved into second on the 10th circuit, he reeled in Nordrum before a caution five laps later.  Haeg challenged Nordrum on the outside with three laps to go and successfully took the position for the lead as Nordrum settled for second and Matt Schaar came home third.

Donny Little earned top honors in the Lupient Chevrolet of Belle Plaine Bombers by passing Dave Montour late in the race.  The races only caution came when points leader Zack Kersting went for a wild ride down the back straight as he nearly flipped his car and came to a rest against the wall.  He was unharmed and returned to the race shortly thereafter.  The caution enabled Little to work by Montour and take the lead for good.  Allen Eldred rounded out the top three.

In the first of two Miller Lite Figure 8 features, Louis Ansolabehere flexed his muscles as he took the lead on the second circuit and never looked back.  Many near misses in the “X” challenged him as he pulled away, but he successfully maneuvered through traffic to claim the win.  Jay Barta finished a strong second and Dave Nogle moved into third late in the race. In the second of two Figure 8 features, John Lebens took advantage of his front row starting spot by taking the lead early in the race and taking off from Steve Cheever.  A caution midway through the race brought the field together.  Following the caution, Rick Martin put up a good fight for the lead, but settled for second, as Lebens could not be beat.  Dan McCarthy made some late race moves to claim third.

The IMCA Old Timers were on hand to celebrate “A Night with the Legends.”  Many cars throughout the last 50 years were hand on for show and exhibition racing.  Many thanks to Skip Pollack and all involved that made such a wonderful event happen.
