SHAKOPEE, Minn. – On a sultry Sunday evening, Jason Schneider won his fourth feature of the year and his second in a row in the Country Joe Homes Late Models at Raceway Park. Schneider, who started fifth, pulled away from Donny Reuvers and Jon Lemke in the last 13 laps. However, when the green flew for the remaining 13 circuits, it was Lemke that poised a challenge for the lead from his outside spot. Lemke got a great restart and took the lead away from Schneider and led lap 18. However, Schneider fought back on the inside and regained the lead one lap later. The race went the rest of the way caution-free as Reuvers worked by Lemke for second and Schneider built a comfortable lead. Schneider led Reuvers across the line by two car lengths, with Lemke five back from Reuvers.
Bryan Turtle returned from his two-week hiatus to capture the main event in the Turtle’s Bar & Grill Hobby Stocks. Turtle, who started from the pole, was never seriously challenged throughout the 25-lap event. As Turtle cruised away from the field, the battle to watch was for third between Mark Hawes and defending champion Bill Woodworth, as they jockeyed for position behind second place runner Louis Ansolabehere. Hawes and Woodworth swapped position many times, displaying some of the best racing of the night. Eventually, Woodworth and Hawes both worked by Ansolabehere and set their eyes on Turtle. They had a little fortune come their way when a caution with one lap remaining was displayed for the spinning cars of Ansolabehere and Jeremy Wolff. When racing resumed, Turtle held off Woodworth and Hawes across the finish line in the green-white-checkered finish.
Matt Schaar took the lead on the first lap and never looked back as he won the Coca-Cola Short Tracker feature. Schaar catapulted to the lead around Nolan Webb on the first circuit and brought Eric Larson with him as they built a nice lead. They pulled away as Joe Neisius worked around Webb on the third circuit and a bevy of cars followed suit in the proceeding laps. As that happened, Neisius caught Larson and worked under him to take second on the seventh circuit. Mike Dimmick followed Neisius on the next lap, but Larson came back on the outside and the two battled side-by-side for many laps. The two swapped position many times in seven laps, before Dimmick solidified himself in third. Meanwhile, Neisius caught Schaar and put up a serious challenge on the outside, but settled for second as Schaar beat him at the line. Paul Haeg made a last corner pass on Dimmick to claim third.
It was all Eric Montour in the Lupient Chevrolet of Belle Plaine Bombers as he took the lead on the first lap and never looked back. Two cautions delayed the action, but that didn’t deter Montour. When racing resumed each time, Montour pulled away just as he did at the start. Allen Eldred moved to second early in the race and stayed there for the remainder of the race. The third place spot was filled by many people throughout the night, but a lot of passing and pushing between the drivers changed it quickly, allowing Todd Eberhardy to be the benefactor and he moved to third at the finish.
In the first of two Miller Lite Figure 8 features, Todd Wilson moved from his third row starting spot and held off former winners Matt Dickey and Dan McCarthy. Wilson moved into the lead on the fifth circuit, passing Louis Ansolabehere, following a caution and never looked back. A lap later, Dickey and McCarthy got by Ansolabehere and followed Wilson away from the pack, but neither could mount a challenge. In the second Figure 8 feature, Kevin Rutten was advantageous of his front row starting spot as he jolted to the lead on the first lap. However, racing was halted when the No.8 of Steve Cheever collided with an infield tire and went airborne, coming to a rest on top of the cars roof. In a true sign of respect and camaraderie, several drivers quickly jumped out of their cars and ran to the aid of Cheever. After turning the fuel off in his car and checking that Cheever was indeed OK, they flipped Cheever's car back on all four tires. As cleanup continued on the track from fluid and dirt, Cheever was getting checked out in the ambulance and many pit members begun work on Cheever’s damaged ride. A few moments later, the unscathed Cheever returned to the track in a new aerodynamically friendly car. However, the triumph was short-lived as Cheever’s axle busted and his night was over. When racing resumed, Rutten continued leading the pack as everyone else jockeyed for position behind him. A lot of late race passes by Dennis Barta and Rick Martin moved them into second and third, respectively, at the end of the race.
Jaycen Brockhouse was triumphant in the Cheerios Great North Legends main event. Kim Krause finished second, while Robbie Carter claimed third.
