Reuvers rallies at Raceway Park

By Corey Butler Jr.

SHAKOPEE, Minn. – Donny Reuvers made a late race charge to catch and pass Jason Schneider on the last lap in the Country Joe Homes Late Model feature Sunday at Raceway Park. Reuvers, who started third, looked poised to take the lead on the sixth circuit when he went to the outside of leader Gary Petrash.  However, Petrash put up quite a battle and held Reuvers at bay.  It didn’t quite work out well for Reuvers, when two laps later; Schneider was able to get under Petrash and brought Jon Lemke with.  Reuvers was quick to follow and three laps later stuck his front end to the inside of Lemke’s No. 17 Chevrolet.  Lemke put up a valiant effort for four laps, before Reuvers was able to solidify himself in the second position.  Seven laps later, on the 22nd circuit, Reuvers found the back of Schneider’s bumper and began pressuring the race leader.  While working around lapped traffic, Schneider got into turn one too hard and that enabled Reuvers to get his nose to the inside of Schneider’s car exiting turn two.  The two raced side-by-side for the final three circuits, with Reuvers winning the drag race out of turn four on the final lap to claim the victory.  Schneider settled for second with Lemke in third.

Bill Woodworth avoided potential early race problems to come back and win the Turtle’s Bar & Grill Hobby Stock main event.  During the pre-race warm up session to heat up tires, Woodworth pulled to the infield with what appeared to be mechanical problems.  However, Woodworth returned to the track a few laps later to take the green flag.  The early part of the race saw Ray Sandgren using the inside line to his advantage by holding off Mark Hawes on the outside line.  The two battled for the first three laps before Sandgren solidified himself in the lead.  Meanwhile, Hawes stayed on the outside and was challenged by Woodworth.  As the two raced side-by-side, Woodworth was able to get under Sandgren on the 13th circuit to take the lead.  Mark Hawes was quick to follow, bringing along last week’s winner Steve Marschall.  Woodworth built a solid lead with Hawes and Marschall following at the finish.

Paul Haeg was quick to work to the lead and won yet another feature in the Coca-Cola Short Trackers.  Haeg, who started third, followed Charlie Pehrson around Andy Benhardus and then passed Pehrson for the lead.  Haeg would hold the spot for the remainder of the caution-free race with Pehrson and Benhardus in second and third, respectively.

Zack Kerstin won a wild race after going three wide to take the lead in the Lupient Chevrolet of Belle Plaine Bombers.  Kenny Schug and Steve Brock raced side-by-side early in the race before Brock began to fade and Schug solidified himself in the lead.  Midway through the race, Kersting dropped to the inside of Schug exiting turn four and Chevy Miller sent to the outside.  As the trio entered turn one and exited turn two, both Kersting and Miller were able to complete the pass and moved into first and second, respectively.  One lap later, Todd Eberhardy moved into third and followed Kersting and Miller across the line.

Jay Barta was the man of the hour in the first Miller Lite Figure 8 feature as he worked from the front row into the lead and never looked back.  An early caution delayed the action but once racing resumed Barta was quick to work on his lead.  Jay’s father, Dennis, was able to make a late race pass to move into second around Bob Hasert, with Matt Dickey moving by Hasert on the last lap for third. Dave Nogle was also advantageous of his front row starting spot as he flexed his Ford muscle in the early portion of the race before a caution four laps following the green slowed the race.  Once racing resumed, Nogle held a short lead on Louis Ansolabehere before Ansolabehere started receiving pressure from behind.  Rick Martin and Matt Dickey moved into second and third, respectively, late in the race.
