Reuvers racks up another win at Raceway Park

By Corey Butler Jr.

SHAKOPEE, Minn. – Donny Reuvers won for the second week in a row Sunday at Raceway Park in the Country Joe Homes Late Models.

Reuvers fended off Jason Schneider in the waning laps after Schneider attempted many times to get around Reuvers in the final 12 laps.  A caution with five laps to go setup a two-car dash and Reuvers and Schneider pulled away from the rest of the field and staged a duel for the lead.  With two laps to go, Schneider muscled his way to the outside and pulled even with Reuvers while taking the white flag.  However, exiting turn two, it appeared that Schneider may have the edge, but he broke loose and pulled in behind Reuvers to follow him to the line.  Tim Ryan posted a career best finish by finishing third.

Lucas Grosinger hung on to win a lengthy Turtle’s Bar & Grill Hobby Stock feature.  With five laps to go, Steve Marschall, who had been running third, appeared to blow his motor and dropped oil all around the track, red flagging the race for clean up.  When racing resumed, Grosinger jumped to the lead as everyone jockeyed behind him in the final laps.  Bill Woodworth was able to claim second with Bryan Turtle in third.

Paul Haeg returned to a very familiar place – victory lane – by winning another Coca-Cola Short Tracker main event.  Winning his heat race earlier in the evening, Haeg worked from deep in the field and into third by the 13th lap.  The next circuit, he got by Joe Neisius for second and three laps later he worked by then leader, Dan Dimmick.  It was easy sailing for Haeg from there as he pulled away.  Dimmick settled for second with Neisius in third.

Allen Eldred brought his entire fan club to victory lane after winning the Lupient Chevrolet of Belle Plaine Bomber feature.  Starting fifth, Eldred moved to second by the fourth lap and while passing leader Steve Brock, slowed and stopped on the track, bringing out the caution.  One more caution would occur with five laps to go, but Eldred was able to hold of the No. 8 of Eric Montour at the finish.  Todd Eberhardy rounded out the top three.

In the first Miller Lite Figure 8 feature, Bob Hasert used a little help from a lapped car to win his first feature of the year.  With three laps to go, it appeared that Kevin Rutten was going to be able to hold of Hasert for the win, however, a lapped car held up Rutten, allowing Hasert to squeeze by and take the win.  Rutten held on for second with Mitch Olson rounding out the top three.

In the second Figure 8 feature, Ricky Martin was victorious with Adam Radiske and Todd Wilson in second and third, respectively.

Make sure to join us Sunday, August 27, as Mopar & 3M present the WSI Memorial 50-lap Late Model feature.  Also, a “50-year Reunion of Past Champions” will take place in addition of the Hobby Stocks, Short Trackers, Figure 8’s, Bombers and Legends!
